I've probably talked about this before, but I was in school. And we walked around all day not allowed to watch the news (some teachers ignored this, but most of mine wouldn't let us). My math teacher shut the tv and said "Math is more important" (he was a dick). My Spanish teacher shut the tv because one girl's father worked in New York, I think? I just remember a lot of whispering and rumors in the hallways, because no one had any truth. People were saying we were attacked by any number of different countries; people were saying places had been hit that weren't. The school told us all to go home immediately after the last bell. No after school clubs or teams or anything. Everybody go home. I don't know why- certainly a middle school in a Florida suburb isn't a terrorist target. Maybe they just wanted us to hurry up and go home and get the truth.

I've completely blocked out a lot of things after that. I've gotten so used to not looking at the pictures that it seems almost like it never happened. Almost. But I haven't forgotten.

The weather changed as the day went on, it got cloudier and darker and creepier. It was one of the strangest, most uncertain days of my life honestly.

It was definitely one of those days that I was glad to be home schooled. Our mom got us up so we could watch what was happening and we all just sat there for hours and hours just taking it in.

I wish I had been home! Our phones were ringing off the hook because so much of my family lives in New York, my mother used to work in the building next door. I don't really remember much after I got home from school, besides my mother pointing out the fact that 9/11 is 911. I just remember driving away from the school with the clouds looking almost like nighttime and feeling an equal sense of denial and dread. I found out later that my uncle was supposed to go on a job there (he's a professional videographer) but didn't end up going.

Our phones were pretty crazy for a while too because we also have some family there. But everyone was fine.

This reminds me, I have a cousin who worked down there doing... idk what he was doing, but he worked on all the rubble and everything and he sent us pictures. And like a lot of people he has (or had? I forget) cancer. After awhile it makes me dissolve into a sputtering incoherent rage.

Urgh. Whenever I hear stories about the cancer rate in people who worked there it's just so disheartening. Those leeches who sell those stupid 9/11 commemorative coins should donate their money to them.

I know! And the government refuses to help with cancer even though it helps with other after-effects. I'm looking at the pictures and holy shit, I forgot how absolutely horrifying seeing the buildings still on fire was.

I looked at a few of the videos, which reminded me of some other stuff, like how even the food network- it was the food network, or tv land- had a news scroll, and when I was in math class (before he turned off the tv) we were confused because we only heard one plane had hit and everyone was like NO THERE WERE TWO and we were like "...seriously?" because it didn't make any sense.

It's like I forgot how much I remembered.

ALL the channels were covering it. It was crazy.

The dorm video is the most terrifying thing I've ever seen.

...that is the most terrifying thing I've ever watched, oh my God. I have goosebumps. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be looking up like "oh, what a horrible accident" and then SUDDEN SECOND PLANE. I mean, it was weird enough hearing about it as it happened, I can't imagine what must go through your mind witnessing it.

Because I remember feeling the same numb "wait, what?" as the day went on and we heard about more planes crashing. 1 makes sense, 4 doesn't.

Mr. Fitzpatrick made us watch the news reports, and he talked to us about what had happened. I still didn't get it.

It was really weird, and really hard to digest at first.
