Look, I know it seems weird to us white folk, but contrary to what you might think, Yahoo, (seeing as how they speak that crazy exotic language called "Spanish" there) Puerto Rico is, actually, part of the United States. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense for them to go there looking for the American Idol.

I know they probably meant outside of the U.S. borders, but it still feels stupid to me. I don't think they said "Outside of the U.S." when they had auditions in Hawaii in the third season.

Well, technically, Puerto Rico isn't part of the United States yet. Last I heard, 51% voted to stay their own country, but it was said it wouldn't be much longer. That may have changed since I heard that (I think it was a few years ago), but that was the last I had heard. Did I miss out on that news? =p

According to Wikipedia, Puerto Rico is "subject to U.S. jurisdiction and sovereignty" and is an "unincorporated territory" of the United States, and since we don't need a passport to get there, as far as I'm concerned, it's part of America.
