Charity begins at LJ
I'm having trouble figuring out how to phrase this entry properly, but I'm gonna give it a go. Basically, there's a really lovely woman named Christina (
sapphsmum) I've grown quite fond of, and she's got medical expenses that you would not believe. It's sadder than the stuff you usually see on tv, in my opinion, possibly because on the news we usually see something being done about cases like this (you know, those segments they do on "what's right with wherever you happen to live" or whatever.) But there's no big company or celebrity or any of that building her a new house or donating money or any of that. All she has in terms of help is compassionate ljers, and believe me, she needs some serious help.
From her website:
"
Three years ago, shortly before she began her fight with cancer, Christina's husband of 32 years (and sweetheart since age 16) lost his job of 27 years due to manufacturing jobs being downsized. On March 10, 2005 Larry received his pink slip via certified mail notifying him that he would soon be out of work. And with this recent job loss will come the loss of his insurance since they can't afford the $1250.03 per month for COBRA coverage. Therefore Christina will have no medical coverage to get necessary tests and treatment for the cancer and other health problems. ... Christina is in constant pain, and her health continues to decline. There are more days she spends bedridden than sewing, which she desperately wants to do to help pay the bills. Bills that keep growing because that she must go to Mayo Clinic every 10 to 12 weeks for tests and treatments. Mayo Clinic is a 6 hour drive each way requiring them to stay overnight, most stays being three to five days, which means they have to come up with money for hotels, gas and food for the trips. These expenses along with many others (like her husband's loss of income when he takes her to appointments, and time off for these surgeries) are not covered by insurance. Last year alone her medical expenses were 1/3 of her husband's gross income.
"
And it's all real, folks, it's not a crooked scam. Her website has the very real medical bills, etc. for proof.
Everyone's favorite recapper-movie parody-er Cleo (cleolinda.livejournal.com of Prisoner of Azkaban in Fifteen Minutes fame... you know, "OMG I KEEL YOU DEAD," F*** YOUR COSMIC SHIT, Break out the brandy, plzkthnx, etc. :D) set up a kind of deal: we donate, she delivers. (http://cleolinda.livejournal.com/262771.html) It's simple: you donate one dollar, log it in her special counter (http://www.livejournal.com/users/cleolinda/262975.html).
There are several different ways to donate, including paypal, amazon, that thing where if you click on a certain link part of the money from your amazon.com purchases goes to your cause, checks and money orders, and buying stuff from the site and from eBay. She's got gorgeous dolls and DVDs and vhs tapes (VHS at five bucks. Come on, you can spend five bucks, and DVDs at around 8.)
So go poke around her website and see what you can do. The least you can do is pray for her and her family, or send positive vibes, or something like that. She also has a handy button you can copy and paste into your userinfo or journal or wherever you feel it would be appropriate. Thanks for reading this entire post.

Doctors and cancer researchers know VERY little about this cancer except that it has a propensity to return to the lungs and bones.
There is NO 5 year cure rate with this cancer.
This cancer does not respond to traditional chemotherapy or radiation, therefore I must be vigilant in getting check ups at Mayo Clinic that include very expensive PET scans, MRI's, CT scans, lung x-rays, and cancer specific blood tests."

My mean, beyond "like whoa".
