Drama

Ok, I've watched this drama go on long enough while keeping my mouth shut.
But no more. I am SICK of this topic. I wish I could say "Case CLOSED!" and everyone shuts up, but that will obviously not be the case. However, it's my journal and I have the right to bitch about it all I want, so here goes.

What is marriage?
Let me tell you the simplest definition I can think of.
Marriage is a word. When it comes right down to it, that's all it is. It's just a word, 2ish syllables, varying origins, blah blah. It's a word.
But when it comes to what this word means- there's the drama.
Why do people get married? They get married, most of the time, because they love each other. They want to be together forever. And they want the world to recognize them as a couple. Couples don't give it a thought; getting married means that now both members will be given health insurance by one spouse's job. It means that both will automatically be given the right to make medical decisions about the other and their children. It means the law will recognize their union as one single entity.
But what about when the couple happens to be a man and a man? Or a woman and a woman? What then? Each member of the couple has to worry about insurance and the fact that if something happens to the other, they don't get the life insurance, the house, the car... The surviving member gets nothing at all.
People, please stop throwing your religion on everyone else. Please stop being closed-minded. Please, please, PLEASE realize that being homosexual is not a choice. People don't wake up one morning and decide, "Oh, I want to be gay today." It is a genetic birth defect. There's nothing anyone can do about it. If someone was born with a crooked nose, you'd let her marry a man with a crooked nose, right? Because she can't help the way she was born? And neither can he? Oh, wait. If the Bible said that all crooked-nosed people suck and are going to hell, then you wouldn't. I see now. If being homosexual is SOOO wrong, then why not ban them from the country? If they're sinning SOOO badly, why not? Because that's wrong. That's discrimination. Just the same as a black woman who did not choose her skin color, a Hispanic who did not choose her ethnicity, and a girl with a crooked nose who did not choose to have a crooked nose, a lesbian did not choose to be a lesbian. Because you can't choose. You cannot choose anything before you're born. In life we're always taught that we have to be fair. Everyone gets the same size handful of cookies, everyone gets to use the green crayon, everyone gets payed the same amount of money for the same amount of work (usually, anyway, don't argue it, that's what's SUPPOSED to happen, anyway.). And then they turn around and say "LIFE isn't fair." Hmm, ok. Hypocrites, the whole lot of them. But I digress.
The point is, NO ONE should be discriminated against for any reason. Being discriminated against for being something you didn't choose to be is terrible and sickening.

I found this on lj drama and it really proves the point about overly religions people...

"Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's law. I have learned a great deal from you, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. How should I deal with this?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as it suggests in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may buy slaves from the nations that are around us. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans but not Canadians. Can you clarify?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 10:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 20:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? -- Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging... "

Do you see now that sometimes what the bible (or Bible, whatthehellever) says doesn't always make sense? Excuse me, but my town must stone me now.
Christianity is about love thy neighbor, be kind, blah blah, all that stuff. LIVE IT, MORONS! Don't just preach it, LIVE IT! I bet about 99 percent of people claiming the evils of homosexuality haven't even read the whole bible and realized that sometimes it makes no sense at all. *dodges stone*

Oh, and I really hate the word "homophobia", because for a lot of people, they aren't scared of homosexual people, they just don't approve of them. But really, since it isn't a lifestyle or a choice, they kinda don't approve of their being alive. How sad. Of course, I'd like to end this little rant by saying two last things:
Why is lesbian porn okay but two women getting married not?
and,
Are homophobic people truly comfortable with their heterosexuality? Or are they, deep down inside, really scared that maybe they might turn out to "swing the other way" and thus have to deal with the same social problems, the same fears of discrimination, the same knowledge that someone might burn a cross on their lawns? Of course the thought of being ridiculed for something you can't control is scary. We all go through the same thing in elementary school when we're afraid the popular kids won't like us. (Don't lie, you KNOW all you want is acceptance) I just don't understand how love can ever be wrong. :(

Actually, I think this is why I leaned more towards being a Democrat this year. A lot of Kerry's plans (or "plans") were crap, like affirmative action and such, but this one Bush issue pushed me away from his side. I'll admit it: In 2000, I begged my parents to vote for Bush because Gore scared me and Bush looked like he was nicer. 4 years later, I learned that he was homophobic, cannot string together a coherent sentence, and cannot even pronounce the words in said sentence (It's NU-CLE-AR, ok?) and is generally a moron. This is why I am not a Republican, and opted instead to debate in SPANISH for Kerry. That and Kerry's a little more environmental. (And he likes the Beatles.:) )

I...love you.
I agree!!!!!!!x4 billion
When two people love each other and want to get married, it is because they want to be acknowledged by a government (that first of all, shouldnt be controled by religion, and second of all, be baised to any citizens) and foremost, so they can be in the hospital room when their loved one is on their death bed. Its about love and not about people trying to spit in christian's faces.

I understand why people freak out about same sex marriages.
Abomination in the eyes of God or whatever.
So I guess because of that I don't have a problem with the church refusing to marry them.
I'm not an overly huge fan of the church/bible. I find a lot of faults/hypocrisy. This is one of the issues.
Besides, it's all how one interprets it, right?
However, I do believe that they should be allowed to be married by civil unions...or...hrm...have the civil union recognize their marraige...or whatever.

Is this coherent?

Civil unions are what some states offer now, but they don't include health insurance and benefits or anything that marriage does. I think the civil union just states that they are together and not much else.

<3marriage<3 cos civil unions suck!

When it comes down to it the entire message of the Bible was summed up in one sentence. To love your neighbor as you love yourself. But why is it so many overlook this pivital point?

As for lesbian porn and marraiges. I think people are more against it because it's out there in public where you can see it first hand (Only people who don't care for lesbian porn of course hate this. Like Bible following morons yey!) and omfg if their kids were to ever see it they'd like, die! Like omg!

I forget where I got this quote from though, but I thought it was rather funny.

Girl's Mother: I don't want you playing with Stacy any more, I don't want you catching her "gay".

Lmao don't you love morons? So much fun to make fun of. Oh and here's one from just yesterday.

Mother: Do you believe in a God?
Me: Yes.
Mother: Then you should go to church every sunday.
Me: I said I believe in a God, not Jesus Christ and the biblical, contradictory God of anger.

I can only imagine what my father's response would be. At least mother can be understanding but that was a bit much even for her. At least they have good faith though eh?
